Monday, Monday, Monday!

First of all, the winner of Stealing Home is turnermd1. So, turnermd1, please send me a private email so I can get your address!

So, look at what we have. It's Monday, June 1st. I know summer isn't "officially" here until the 21st, but how can you not think of kicking off summer on the first of June? So, it's my goal this summer to get everybody reading...something. And, don't worry, not just my books. I have a bunch of great books to give away all summer. However, I'm kicking it off with one of mine--my first book, actually, Ten Thousand Charms. It was the book that kicked off my writing career, so it seems fitting that it be the one to kick off the summer reading series. I won't be giving you a review, but really, I do rather like this one!

Personally, I have a stack of books in a basket by my bed. (don't we all?) But there are certain books that I have earmarked for summer. Frankly, there are some stories that seem less "summer" to me than others. For example, I really don't like to read historicals in the summer. Why? Don't know. Maybe the thoughts of all those petticoats when it's 100 degrees outside. No, when it's hot outside, I like a good comedy, or even a great, dark mystery. I like summer books that are huge and thick to read at home, and little, light romances to carry in my bag when I go to the waterpark.

Since I'll be showcasing so many different books this summer, take a minute and tell me what makes the perfect summer read for you! Your comment enters you in a drawing to win a copy of Ten Thousand Charms. Yeah, petticoats, I know. But you can read it under the air conditioning!

  1. I just finished reading Stealing Home and I think it is a wonderful summer read. It has baseball, romance and small town charm wrapped around a wonderful story. I would love a chance to win Ten Thousand Charms. Thank you.

  2. (I'm adding a comment from my facebook :)

"I love reading almost anything any time of year. Last summer it was Don Quioxte, armour and all. Talk about stiflingly hot! This year I just finished Anna Karenin, not Karenina in my copy, corsets and petticoats. I'm trying to catch up with the classics, but spend time between reading other books like your wonderful Saturdays with Stella. Please give her a smooch from me and greetings from our newest family member, Max, who was my MIL's miniature schnauzer. I'm looking forward to more books from you. Thanks.Jan"

  5. In the summer I have a busier work schedule and lots of yard work. I enjoy lighter reading, no thick classics. Thanks, Janet

  6. I will be finishing Stealing Home (thanks to you for a copy of it!)... I picked up a copy of "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" at a garage sale and hope to read it...
No need to enter me again, but hope you enjoy your summer of good reads!

  7. Oooh, Memory Keeper's Daughter is a great book! Lifetime did a movie a few months ago that was unwatchable (especially if you've read the book)

    Allison,
I would love to be a winner of one of the books.
Of course, I have "Ten Thousand Charms" but it was a good one and I could always give it to someone. Please enter me in the contest.

  10. As an English teacher, I spend endless hours throughout the school year reading 9th and 10th grade essays. That leaves little time for my own personal reading. However, I can usually get in 5 or 6 between September and May. I just finished Coetzee's Age of Iron about apartheid in South Africa. It made me realize that I know nothing about South Africa and Apartheid. At the same time, I finished Mr. Isaacs by Marion Crawford about transcendental beliefs of the Ram Lal in India. Being a Christian, I found this very strange thinking but also interesting. I like reading the more obscure authors and this one has a copyright of 1882. I have 4 other books that I am reading now: Rosie's Daughters by Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, Writing from Life by Susan Wittig Albert, and Writing About Your Life by William Zinsser.

When I read good reviews of new books, I am the first one to sign up. I haven't read any Pittman books yet, but am anxious to get an order off to Amazon! Who knows, maybe I'll win one! Judy

  11. Imagine my surprise while on vacation in (very) rural Georgia last month to find a copy of "Ten Thousand Charms" in the county public library! To appreciate that miracle, you need to understand the county has one town (which now boasts THREE traffic lights), one high school and one elementary school. I'd love to win another copy of "Ten Thousand Charms" (I've acquired and passed on several), but I really want to send them the other two books in the series as well--and "Stella" of course......she's just too precious. 12. I just finished Twilight to see if I would let my soon to be eleven year old read it. Such a phenomenon. As a Starbucks employee who worked opening night of the movie opening, all I can say is YIKES. After checking with my sister, I have decided to let Tatum read it. I have hear the subsequent books are more risque, so I will have to read them in turn. That being said, my sister has a friend who actually developed a bible study that parallels the Twilight books. So, I will probably be reading New Moon, but would much rather read Stealing Home.
